Deerpark Officials Pass Emergency Preparedness Act

For Immediate Release – Tuesday, May 4, 2010

(HUGUENOT, NY) – The Deerpark Town Board adopted Local Law #3 of 2010 on Monday night, named the Emergency Preparedness Act, in efforts create better structure in which officials can follow in cases of disaster of emergency. The law was sponsored by Councilman David Hoovler.

Deerpark has had its share of flooding disasters in recent years and even lost a FEMA grant due to not submitting the proper paperwork on time. The new law creates a clear chain of command for the Deerpark Emergency Operations Center and establishes detailed rules for management to follow up on any emergency or disaster declared in the town.

“This town cannot afford to make anymore mistakes,” said Deerpark Supervisor Karl A. Brabenec (R, I, C – Westbrookville). “This legislation gives our emergency officials guidance and direction in critical times.”

“We wanted to make sure that the procedures were in writing to guide our present and future leaders in an organized way,” said Councilman Hoovler (R, I, C – Sparrowbush). “These additions provide the necessary updates to ensure effectiveness.”
