DEERPARK BOARD PASSES PRELIMINARY BUDGET; PROPOSED DECREASE IN TAX LEVY FOR 2011

For Immediate Release – October 5, 2010

(HUGUENOT, NY) – The Deerpark Town Board unanimously passed the 2011 Preliminary Budget at Monday night’s town board meeting.  The proposal calls for a decrease in the tax levy from 2010 by 0.28% or $7600.  The levy decrease is contributed to cost savings throughout the year and various reductions in line items within next year’s budget.

“Since submitting my tentative budget, the whole town board has worked very hard to find more costs savings for the taxpayers,” said Deerpark Supervisor Karl A. Brabenec.  “I feel very comfortable with this budget and I am positive that most of the taxpayers in the town will be satisfied as well.”

“This budget clearly sends a message that we are looking out for every taxpayer dollar and properly planning for the future,” said Councilman David M. Hoovler. “The board is confident that we have made the right choices for the residents of the town.”

Some of the highlights of the proposed budget include a proposed tax levy for next year which is $7,600 less or a decrease of 0.28%, $10,000 to explore bringing back a town bulk clean up day, an additional $15,000 for the town’s road paving budget, an allocation of $36,000 to the Building Reserve Fund for future plans to erect a new garage for the Highway Department, $5000 in most of the reserve accounts, and $55,000 in contingency.

The preliminary budget will now be sent to the New York State Comptroller’s office for review.  Upon return of any recommendations by the Comptroller’s Office, the board will schedule a public hearing of the Preliminary budget, make any other necessary changes, and then finalize the budget by adopting it.
