DEERPARK CREATES LOCAL VETERANS BOARD

(HUGUENOT, NY) – The Deerpark Town Board unanimously passed Local Law #6 of 2010 creating the Deerpark Veterans Board. Officials said that this has been a long time goal that was finally accomplished.

“I am so happy that our town will finally have an advisory board to assist the veterans of our community,” said Deerpark Supervisor Karl A. Brabenec. “This board will make sure that the needs of our veterans and their families are addressed locally and will work to ensure that their service and sacrifice to our country will be properly honored throughout the years to come.”

The new advisory board will consist of seven members who must be either active service personnel or veterans with an honorable discharge in any of the branches of the United States Armed Forces. Preference will be given to Deerpark residents, however, veterans from Orange County can serve on the committee. The Director of the Orange County Veterans Service Agency will be an honorary member as well.

The board will be responsible for formulating plans and raising funds for a future veterans memorial to be located within the town, promoting local tax exemptions for veterans and cold war veterans, organizing veterans events, and working with other veteran’s organizations to promote various programs to local veterans and their families.

The town board are seeking interested veterans to serve on this committee.
