Individual homeowners, small businesses, renters, farmers affected by Irene may apply

(Goshen, NY) – Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana advises residents that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has opened a Disaster Recovery Center, the beginning of the reimbursement process for Individual Assistance (IA) eligible storm damage expenses incurred by individual homeowners, small businesses, renters, and farmers affected by Hurricane Irene, at the Orange County Fire Training Center, 9 Training Center Lane, New Hampton, NY 10953 and is open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, seven days a week until further notice.

This is the only Disaster Recovery Center that FEMA has opened in Orange County to date. Today is its first full day of operation.

FEMA strongly recommends that people seeking assistance register with them before visiting the Disaster Recovery Center. By phone, call the FEMA registration line at 800-621-3362. For those with speech or hearing disabilities, use the TTY number at 800-462-7585. Applicants can also register online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or with any web-enabled mobile device or smartphone at m.fema.gov.

Also on hand at the Disaster Recovery Center will be specialists from the Small Business Administration (SBA) who can explain the low-interest loan packages available to individuals, non-profits, and businesses of any size. These loans are for the repair or replacement of real estate and/or personal property damaged by the storm and related flooding.
