(HUGUENOT, NY) – High efficiency windows are being installed at the Deerpark Town Hall this week with the help of a federal government grant and local legislators. Earlier this year, Deerpark was awarded $52,000 from left over grant monies that Orange County Government had secured to do energy efficiency projects at their facilities. The Town Board, with the help of Orange County Legislators Dennis W. Simmons and Melissa Bonacic applied to the county in order to replace older, energy inefficient windows at the Deerpark Town Hall building.The contract for the work was awarded to M&P Builders of Westbrookville, NY through a competitive bidding process.
“We were delighted when we were awarded the grant and grateful to the County for letting municipalities participate in this program,” said Deerpark Town Supervisor Karl A. Brabenec. The building was losing a lot of heat and air conditioning through the old windows so replacing them will help us to reduce taxpayers costs over the next few years.”
In 2009, the County of Orange was awarded an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant through the United States Department of Energy (DOE) under the American Resource and Recovery Act (ARRA). $720,000 of this block grant was made available to Orange County municipalities and school districts through Incentive Financing Grants. Municvipalities that had performed energy audits were eligible to apply and the Town of Deerpark had theirs performed in Spring of 2010.
“The installation of these windows will prove to be a considerable cost savings for Town of Deerpark taxpayers both immediately and in the future,” said Orange County Legislator Dennis W. Simmons. It was my pleasure to work with Supervisor Karl Brabenec and the Deerpark Town Board, with the help of Melissa Bonacic and County Executive Ed Diana, to be able to secure the funds making this important project possible.”
“It was so important to utilize this federal government grant to achieve future cost savings for the taxpayers,” said Orange County Legislator Melissa Bonacic. “I am proud that I was able to make this project a reality for the town.”
