Deerpark to start 2013 budget process early

For Immediate Release – July 17, 2012

(HUGUENOT, NY) – Deerpark Town Supervisor and Budget Officer Karl A. Brabenec announced today that he has started the 2013 budget process three weeks early.  The reasoning behind the move is to be proactive in the town’s future financial planning.  Since 2008, the town has had all budgets audited by the New York State Comptrollers Office and will continue to do so this year.

“We are being proactive and always trying to set the example,” said Supervisor Brabenec. “As the financial stewards of the town, the Town Board and I will continue to be very conservative with all of our estimates in order to save money and keep taxes as low as possible.”

While the Budget Officer’s Tentative Budget is not due to the Town Clerk until September 1st, Brabenec said he hopes to have the document ready for town board review in the next few weeks.  He hopes this will give the board time to examine all estimates and search for other cost saving measures.

“I think this is a very smart move,” said Councilman David M. Hoovler. “This will afford us the opportunity to compare the proposed budget with our long term financial plan and make the best decisions for the taxpayers.”
